A great honor for the International Olympic Academy occurred as the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Jacques ROGGE, invited his IOA counterpart, Mr. Isidoros KOUVELOS, to participate and address the 13th Olympic Congress, which takes place in Copenhagen from the 1st to the 7th of October.

Mr. KOUVELOS said that his presence, as IOA President, among prominent figures of Olympism and Sport “is a position of responsibility and commitment towards all the participants who are contributing through their work and action to the progress and evolution of the Olympic Movement”.

During his speech at the 13th Olympic Congress, the IOA President will refer to the role of himself and his coworkers towards “the special duty to support and promote the IOA’s ongoing educational and scientific work and, above all, to enhance its role, through innovative actions and ensure its dynamic contribution to the Olympic Movement in the new millennium”.

The IOA President is attending the 13th Olympic Congress in Copenhagen along with the Director of the Academy, Mr. Dionyssis GANGAS and the Dean, Mr. Kostas GEORGIADIS.


Commencement of the Master’s Program

The 1st Cycle of the academic year 2009-10 of the First International Master’s Program on Olympic Studies –Olympic Education and Organization and Management of Olympic Events starts on Monday October 5, 2009. The Master, which is organized by the Academy and the University of Peloponnese under the sponsorship of “John Latsis Foundation” and takes place at the premises in Ancient Olympia, is part of IOA’s expanded educational and scientific role.

30 students (6 Greeks and 24 foreigners from different countries from all over the world) and 11 professors will participate in the A’ Semester of the Master’s Program that will be concluded on the 4th of December.  Today (Friday), IOA representatives will welcome the foreign students and two of the professors who will teach in Ancient Olympia, Mr. Stephen MILLER (American from Berkeley University) and Mr. Ingomar WEILER (Austrian from Graz University).
