3rd International Session for Olympic Medallists
 
The 3rd International Session for Olympic Medallists, that is organized by the International Olympic Academy, starts tomorrow Wednesday 22/6 at the premises in Ancient Olympia. Its main subject will be “Olympism” and its special subject “Communication methods of Olympic values of Olympian Role Models”.

The opening ceremony of the works of the Session is planned to take place at 18:30 at the conference room “D. Vikelas” of the convention center in the premises of Ancient Olympia, with an address by the IOA President Mr Isidoros KOUVELOS.

In his address, the IOA President will welcome the participants and will highlight how important it is the subject of the Session this year, underlying:
“In the following days, important aspects of issues that preoccupy the international sport community regarding the professional and social life of high performance athletes during after their sport careers will be explored through scientific announcements and discussions.”

Afterwards, there will be the presentation of the lecturers and the participants and the laying of wreaths at the stele of Pierre de COUBERTIN, renovator of the Modern Olympic Games, and at the commemorative monument of John KETSEAS and Carl DIEM, pioneers of the International Olympic Academy.

The lecturers of the 3rd International Session for Olympic Medallists will be the following:
Prof. Kostas GEORGIADIS (GRE), University of Peloponnese, Honorary Dean of the International Olympic Academy, on the subject: "Master’s Degree Programme: Olympic Studies, Olympic Education, Organisation and Management of Olympic Events".

Mr Jean DURRY (FRA), Writer, Historian on Sport and Olympism, Member of the IOC Commission for Culture and Olympic Education and Founder of the National Sports Museum of France, on the subject: "Pierre de Coubertin, the first “Olympian”?".

Mr Duff GIBSON (CAN), World and Olympic Champion Skeleton, Canadian Skeleton Team Head Coach, on the subject: "The role of Olympians in the propagation of social values".

Prof. George MAVROTAS (GRE), Assistant Professor, National Technical University of Athens, Ex-captain of the National water polo team participating in 5 Olympic Games, on the subject: "Educational preparation of top performance athletes".

The closing ceremony of the works of the Session is planned for Saturday 25/6 at 11:30 a.m.
