Coercive cuts in IOA activities for 2010

The International Olympic Academy was forced to constrict its activities for the current year due to financial reasons. The drastic cuts to the yearly financing from the State to the IOA in conjunction with the general financial problem of the world downturn, have forced the Ephoria of the Academy to remove two important summer events from the 2010 calendar. The events that are unfortunately cancelled are the 9th International Session for Educators and Officials of Higher Institutes of Physical Education, that was going to take place from the 23rd to the 30th of July 2010, and the 18th International Seminar on Olympic Studies for Postgraduate Students (8/7-6/8/2010). The IOC President, Dr Jacques Rogge, was informed about this situation.

Delays in the hiring of the seasonal employees

The delay of the approval of the decision from the relevant ministries for the hiring of 40 seasonal employees for the HOC through the institution of ASEP in order to work in its premises in Ancient Olympia worries a lot the administration of the Academy since they fear that the Academy won’t be able to deal with its many and high obligations the coming May!

The second Semester of the Master’s Degree Programme

The works of the 2nd Semester of the Master’s Degree Programme, with the title “Olympic Studies, Olympic Education, Organization and Management of Olympic Events” that is organized by the International Olympic Academy in collaboration with the Department of Sports Organization and Management of the University of Peloponnese have already started since the 17th of April. The Master’s Degree programme had no cuts in its operation since it is funded exclusively by the “John Latsis Foundation”.
