The works of the 10th Joint International Session for Presidents or Directors of National Olympic Academies and Officials of National Olympic Committees, which is organized each year by the International Olympic Academy, in its premises in Ancient Olympia-the cradle of Olympism-, are commencing on Thursday (13 May) and will be concluded on the 19th of May.

The main subject of this year’s Session is “Olympism” while the special topic is “New challenges in the collaboration among the IOC, the IOA, the NOCs and the NOAs”.

The President of the International Olympic Academy, Mr. Isidoros KOUVELOS will open the Session at 17.00 and right afterwards Mr Ioannnis PAPADOGIANNAKIS-ex HOC Vice President and Chef de Mission of the Greek Delegation in the Olympic Games 1988, 1992, 2000, 2004 will deliver a lecture on the subject: “National Olympic Committee: Its role and position at the dawn of the 21st century”.

The lecturers of the 10th International Session are:
Prof. Dr Antonín RYCHTECKY (CZE), President of the NOA of the Czech Repuyblic with the lecture: “Place and role of Olympism in Higher Education”

Mrs Nicole GIRARD-SAVOY (IOC), Section Manager, IOC Olympic Solidarity, who will talk about the “Expansion of the cooperation among Olympic Solidarity, National Olympic Committees and National Olympic Academies”

Mr Alexandre MESTRE (POR), Sports Lawyer and Board Member of the NOA of Portugal whose lecture is entitled: “Olympic Charter: The institutional framework for the development of Olympic Education and the role of the National Olympic Academies as a tool of the IOC towards this direction”

Mr Henry TANDAU (TAN), Director of the NOA of Tanzania who will speak on “How to spread and develop joint international programs about Olympic Education: cultural and communication problems”

Dr Thomas P. ROSANDICH (USA), President and CEO of the United States Sports Academy, with the lecture: “The use of art for the development of the Olympic Education: Passing the visual torch”, and

Prof. Mark GOLDEN (CAN), Professor of Classics at the University of Winnipeg, who will describe “The position of the athlete in the social structure of Ancient Greece”.
