NOA OF DOMINICA National Olympic Academy of Dominica The Dominican Olympic Academy was officially launched on June 23 rd 2004, with a grand exhibition based on the theme “The Olympic Games through the Ages”. The event was planned to coincide with the 2004 Olympic Day Run; with hundreds of persons of all ages converging on the exhibition site at the finish point for the 5 km Run. Primary school children (Ages 8–2 years) played an important part in the event, drawing the flags of all member countries of the Olympic Movement, and preparing pictorial displays illustrating different aspects of the Olympic Movement. National Sports Federations affiliated with the Dominica Olympic Committee participated in the exhibition, mounting booths in which information about their sports and the equipment used, were placed on display. In some cases, demonstrations of the games were staged. Membership of the Dominican Olympic Academy is being reconstituted, and one of the activities being discussed is an art competition among students of primary and secondary schools, on themes related to Olympic values. The drawings and paintings submitted will then be used to produce a 2006 Calendar, which will then be sold to raise funds for charitable institutions. |
