The International Olympic Academy booth met great success during the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, which took place in the austrian city. More than 1000 people of all ages visited it; athletes, students, parents but also members of the Olympic Family. The most distinguished presence was that of the International Olympic Committee President, Dr Jacques Rogge, who praised this specific initiative of the IOA and its President, Mr. Isidoros Kouvelos.
In the booth one could find informative material on the course of the Olympic Movement. The three touch screens, with different programs each, where all the visitors could be informed on the Olympic Values and Ideals through games, videos and quizzes, drew the attention of the visitors. There was also information provided on the work and activities of the International Olympic Academy.
The IOA Director, Mr. Dionyssis Gangas, was responsible for the running of the booth, which many members of the International Olympic Committee visited, among whom Mr. Lambis Nikolaou. In addition, the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee Mr. Spyros Capralos, the IOC member and President of the Commission “Woman and Sports” Ms Anita DeFrantz, the IOC member Mr. Francesco Ricci Bitti, the President of Hungary and President of the National Olympic Committee Mr. Pál Schmitt, the Olympic Medallists and members of the IOC Commission for Athletes Ms Claudia Bokel, Mr. Alexander Popov and Mr. Pedro Yang, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein who is the President of the National Olympic Committee of Jordan, HSH the Sovereign Prince Albert II also President of the National Olympic Committee of Monaco, the member of the IOC Executive Committee and Vice-President of FINA Mr. Sam Ramsamy and the IOC Honorary member Mr. Walther Tröger.
