Sociological Aspects of Olympism

Social, comparative and developmental theories and issues are discussed relating to Olympism, its Ideals and their practical implementation.

The effects of changes in societal norms and values in different cultures and through time are examined. More specific areas of study include the athlete's role in society, participation in sport and in the Olympic Games, amateurism and professionalism, conformity and deviance, gender and sexuality, violence and aggression, rules and socialisation.

Differences among developed and developing nations are discussed as are the issues of religion, nationality, citizenship and government, science and technology, the environment, body, health and age.
