Dinos Michaelides was born in Pafos, Cyprus in 1943. Michaelides started as a track and field athlete where he became a regional Cypriot champion and a Balkan champion, before later becoming a coach. Michaelides worked most of his life in education and sport and had strong ties with the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC). Michaelides served as the COC’s director from 1985 to 1996, before serving as its president from June 2016 to October 2020. In 2021, the International Committee of Mediterranean Games awarded Michaelides with the Order of Merit for outstanding services to Mediterranean sport.
