Dr. Andreas Karatsolis is a Senior Lecturer and the permanent Director of Writing, Rhetoric, and
Professional Communication (WRAP) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a
program which supports the communication needs of all graduate and undergraduate MIT
students. His disciplinary training includes a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Communication with an
emphasis on technical/professional practices in science-related fields, which is at the core of his
teaching and research efforts. In his administrative role at MIT for the past twelve years, he has
designed curricula and tools that integrate disciplinary knowledge with life-long habits of
learning and reasoning, an effort which led to WRAP being recognized as a Program of
Excellence in 2022 by the National Council of Teachers of English. As a researcher, Dr. Karatsolis
has also been the lead or co-principal investigator in multiple funded projects related to the
design, implementation, and assessment of learning frameworks and tools, especially in the
domains of language learning, professional communication, and data visualization and
storytelling. He is currently affiliated with the MIT Sports Lab and is also the manager of the
UNESCO Chair on Translating Cultures Lab.
