Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece and the US (CHS), the International Olympic Academy (IOA), and the Region of Western Greece, in collaboration with the University of Patras and the Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports of the University of Texas at Austin, and with the support of AEGEAS Non-Profit Civil Company, offer the Sport and Education Program: From Ancient Olympia to the Present.

From Ancient Olympia to the Present. Building upon the highly successful collaboration of institutions and the important academic legacy of the dozen Symposia on Sports, Society, and Culture that preceded it, the program will bring a diverse body of students and faculty together in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, to examine how sport shaped ancient models of knowledge, and how, in turn, the ancient athletic-knowledge complex, known as paideia, served as a model for modern universities and professional sports

This activity is open to up to thirty-five (35) undergraduate students in their 3rd year of studies and higher and postgraduate (master's and Ph.D.) students from every department of Greek Universities. We welcome applicants with a demonstrated current affiliation or interest in sport.
In addition to undergraduates and postgraduate students from Greece, the program will also host students from North American Universities.

Applications (https://forms-greece.chs.harvard.edu/sport-education-program-application/) will remain open between Thursday, April 11, and Wednesday, May 15, 2024 (23:59 Eastern European Time).

Documents Upload
What you will need to do:
  • 1. Review which documents you must upload for your application to be considered.
  • 2. Make sure you have collected all documents. Please remember about the Declaration of consent to the Processing of Personal Data.
  • 3. Create a folder to upload your documents at Dropbox or a Google Drive
  • 4. Make sure all documents are uploaded
  • 5. After you have uploaded your documents, ensure we can access the link by pressing the option "anyone with the link can view".
  • 6. Ensure the previous step is done so we can see and review your documents.
  • 7. Copy the shareable link.
  • 8. On the bottom right, press "Upload Documents" button. A pop-up window of your profile will appear.
  • 9. At the bottom section "Upload Documents of the pop-up, please paste the link there and choose which session you are applying to. Your application is then successfully submitted.
  • 10. The IOA support team receives a notice to review your documents.
