Since the beginning of 2020, the National Olympic Academy of Iran has continued to run various programmes, the most important of which are the following: The Department of Physical Education of the Ministry of Science and the Academy jointly held the first workshop on executive management of major sporting events with the emphasis on “Olympic Values” for experts and directors of physical education.The National Olympic Academy of Iran also organized a conference at national level aiming at developing championship sport as a science. The President of the Academy, Dr Gharekhanlou, introduced knowledge-based sports, with a new approach regarding the application of science in sport, and with the involvement of the coaches, trainers, sports psychologists, managers and executive agents of sports in this important matter.The National Olympic Academy also held the Policy Council for the Protection of Athletes against Harassment and Abuse in Sport. The idea is based on the instructions of the IOC on the importance of athletes as the heart of the Olympic Movement and the need to create a safe environment for them.The Academy also directed the third phase of its scholarship programme for young elite athletes aged 13-15 to be prepared for Youth Olympic Games.After the global outbreak of Covid-19, the National Olympic Academy of Iran, in a new approach sought to turn this threat into an opportunity and bring about the plan of the Virtual National Olympic Academy, the plan of which was approved by Dr Salehi Amiri, President of the Iranian National Olympic Committee.Thus, a number of online workshops and courses were conducted, namely: OVEP online course for the Iranian teachers; methodology of Functional training course for coaches and trainers; the new method of the Strength training course for coaches and trainers; return to training from the perspective of injury prevention during the Coronavirus pandemic especially for national volleyball and basketball teams; International Sports Cardiology webinar with the presence of Dr Michael Papadakis the head of Education, Cardiology and Sports Department at the University of St George, London and Dr Mahdi Anvari; and psychological, nutritional, medical advice was provided for athletes via phone and online platforms.Last but not least, National Olympic Academy commenced an endeavor during the pandemic, to translate the latest findings on Covid-19 and sport into Persian. They were translated by the International Section of the National Olympic Academy and made available to the sports community.
